LAN-Party 2010
Are you ready for coming monday, monday 26 July? No, it's not the queens birthday and neither we expect a party but it's the start of the 7th REP LAN!
One week full of hot weather and sitting behind a computer screen, one week of laughing and crying about things you or others do, one week of fun watching movies, one week of relaxing and surely one crazy week together! The summer already began but we haven't started yet but monday we will, let the games begin!
The day after... A glorious day many dutch speaking people will probably never forgot. Revenge for the half-final `98 when Brazil knocked out Holland with penalties, but yesterday we did it. We've thrown one of the biggest team out of the cup, the yellow canaries can go home and the orange lion goes further. We had our party and it was great but there are still two matches left!
Support Holland, support the orange Lion and roar with us like whole Holland will do! Tuesday is the half-final against Uruguay and we will be sitting in front of the tv supporting them in orange. Help them to the final, help them win and help them to the cup!
Microsoft had it, Adobe followed and now many companies got a patch day every month to be sure everything is up-to-date. We've decided to bring in this patch day for the REP server as well.
Last week we found out that lots of patching needs to be done and nearly every day there is a patch somewhere. An Openttd or Ventrilo server that needs a patch, websites that need a patch, components of a website that need a patch, Linux that need a patch or a reboot that's needed. A lot of things are now being done whenever we've got time but this also means that there is work on it nearly every day, brings more downtime and makes planning maintenance a disaster. From now on it will be done on the 1st sunday of every month. This will go into the books as a patch day. Regular maintenance will take around 1 hour, sometimes a longer maintenance is needed. In the last case we will still give out a warning.
With this we hope for lower downtime, more regular maintenance and a better plan for the admins who need to do all the patches.
