It took longer than expected but finally we are back online! After some hectic days we finally got everything up and running again on our backup server, it's less heavy than our official one so expect it to be slow from time to time.
So, what took us so long? Here an overview of the last 2 weeks to get an overview on what happened.
4 January: server gone offline and making backups of the server files.
5 January: Trying to get the backup server on but it didn't respond, investigation is needed.
7 January: Server is on now allthough it doesn't seems to start at all. Switched the memory around and now everything seems to be ok.
8 January: Data being copied to the backup server.
9 January: Server doesn't pass the mainboard screen anymore, switched the memory back into there old positions and now everything is fine again.
10 January: Ventrilo is back online and also installed a firewall. Everything seems to be up and running again.
12 January: Webserver suddenly decided to stop, also can't connect to the bouncer anymore. Can't update the virusscan anymore and on top of that the firewall doesn't seem to work because the IP blocks are just bypassed.
14 January: New install of the firewall, blocks seems to be working now.
16 January: Problems with the connecting to the bouncer and virusscan updates are back. Seems firewall is the problem, searching for a new one.
17 January: Installed another firewall, everything works fine now after some configuration issues. Webserver problems are solved by a fresh install of the webserver. Everything is working fine again!
So, everything is working fine now. Up to the next stage, Linux. But for now we've bothered our users enough with downtime so we'll get back with maintenance in a month or 2.
